Dreamy Skies

April 10, 2012

Somewhere between earth and sky,
There is a place I like to fly.

I see the ocean flat and blue,
The fields are covered in dark green hue.

The cloudy shadows, dim and bright.
The orange and red, that veils the night.

The starry sky, above, below.
Amber, green, red lights aglow.

We chase the sun, upon earths seam.
Our wings hold up our fading dream.

I wake, and suddenly I see,
I’m not where I’d dreampt I’d be.

The captains seat, an office chair,
Cockpit a desk, and stationaire.

It’s not my dream, it’s where lifes led.
But when at last I rest my head,

I’ll drift away and close my eyes,
And again return to dreamy skies.

Special Moments

April 9, 2011

If you don’t know already, the theme from Anne of Green Gables has a lot of significance to my wife and I, and represents some very special times in my life. So, I was sitting at work on Friday, making a cardboard cutout of a toilet (yes, I do whatever I’m told), and what comes across my shuffled iPhone playlist but that very song. Naturally, I had to laugh a little bit, because nothing says “special moment” like sitting on the floor of your cubical in a skyscraper in downtown Indianapolis, and cutting out cardboard toilets!

My Son… (Dear young person,)

April 6, 2011

So, what does the Bible say about a young persons relationship with his/her parents? Well, here are a few verses that have been on my mind lately.

Proverbs 1:7-9 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Proverbs 6:20-22 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

but… notice the contrast in the following verses

Proverbs 10:1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Proverbs 15:20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

The consequences…

Proverbs 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

The solution…

Proverbs 30:32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

Young person, your authority lies in your parent. Do not remove yourself from that authority. Because you remove yourself from one authority, does not mean that you are out from under authority. It means that you are now underneath the authority of God.

Rest in the authority that you have been placed under, for one day God will hold you accountable and you alone for your actions.

Quotes on Truth

April 6, 2011

It is error alone which needs the support of government.  Truth can stand by itself.

~Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia
I am the fellow citizen of every being that thinks; my country is Truth.

~Alphonse de Lamartine, “Marseillaise of Peace,” 1841

false Christianity

JGplanes has died…

October 21, 2010

This was a chat conversation I had with a friend yesterday. I thought I would post it, because it was fresh in my mind at the time and it tells the story well.

(2:44:31 PM) jdekruyter@edit/edit: It’s a long story. A long time ago, God started working on me about FS and my love for it. It has been my life for the past ten years, and I haven’t let anything get in the way of it. It controls my thoughts and I have spent way to much time and money on it. I have wanted to grow spritually, but I can’t. FS was in the way. It seemed like every time someone would preach about putting God first, I would hear Him telling me to get rid of my computer. I heard it said that “anything that takes the place of God is an idol”. FS is my idol. I loved it. It took first place in a lot of areas. So, rather than give it up, I tried to justify it by doing dev stuff and claiming that it would make me money. I tried giving up beta testing and flying less to satisfy my consience, but I couldn’t give it up.
Well last night I did. I prayed about it for a long time and after making a ton of excuses and whys and wherefores, I asked the Lord what he wanted. He led me to Mark 9:43-50. I asked what he wanted me to do with the computer, because I knew if I kept it, it would tempt me. He told me to give it to the church. They need new computers, and it would make a good file server. So, that’s the story. I’m right with God, and I would rather have that than FS.
I will bring in a hard drive tomorrow with all of my FS stuff, and copies of all my project work. I’m sure you can find a helping hand on FSDev or maybe finish it yourself. I’m thankful for your friendship, and I hope you understand. 🙂

Mark 9:43-50

43And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

I feel like I shot a friend in the back, but I have freed myself to know a friend that “sticketh closer than a brother.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Bye, JGplanes.
